The town health officer is given authority by the Vermont statutes to investigate and mitigate any potential or existing public health hazard in his/her town.

• Investigate possible public health hazards and risks within the town
• Take action to prevent, remove, or destroy any public health hazards
• Take action to lessen significant public health risks
• Enforce health laws, rules and permit conditions, and take the steps necessary to enforce orders
